Last month’s category 5 cyclone that struck the eastern tips of the Melanesian Islands in the Pacific has caused major damages to Vanuatu and its people. Over 100,000 people were left homeless and are now facing serious health issues.
As part of the assistance to Vanuatu, all-boys school De La Salle Catholic Secondary gave over ten bales of second-hand clothes and funds of over K1,000 to Caritas PNG. The supplies will be later given to the National Government to hand over to Vanuatu.
Last week the National Government also committed K5 million to Vanuatu.
National Director of Caritas PNG, Raymond Ton, said the kind gesture from the school comes at the right time this Easter as it’s a time for sacrifice and sharing. Ton said the school’s donation will go a long way to change someone’s life in Vanuatu.
School headboy, Greg Noki, explained the initiative was from the student body. He said these are part of the school’s motto in reaching out to communities who are in need.
