Customs Taking Hardline on Illegal Imports

PNG Customs maintain their position to protect Papua New Guinea’s border, communities and industries.

Today Ray Paul, PNG Customs Commissioner warned all importers to take heed and stop the importing of illegal products.

This weekend three forty foot containers were emptied and all illegal products burned to ashes. The container opened today had one third stocked with slippers, material, toilet paper and mattresses.

As those products were removed, two thirds of the forty foot container revealed boxes stocked with illegal products known as Double Happiness- a type of cigarette.

These cigarettes are banned from business houses in PNG. The Customs Commissioner gave a warning to all businesses importing products from overseas to abide by the laws and regulations on Papua New Guinea.

Three forty footer containers, from China, containing illicit products were emptied this weekend.

All illicit products were burned to ashes.

These three containers are worth almost K24 million.
