With less than 200 days remaining till the 2015 Pacific Games, divisional heads from the NCD Metropolitan Command are taking weekly walks to keep fit.
Today, a team of police station commanders walked from Hohola Police Station up to Burns Peak, then to the police headquarters in Konedobu – and back.
The team was led by Superintendent for Operations, Silas Waiyagure. It included police station commanders from Boroko, Hohola, Gerehu, as well as two Australian Federal police officers.
Their weekly walk is conducted on every Thursday and is hosted by different police station commanders.
Superintendent for Operations, Silas Waiyagure said the weekly walk is an initiative of NCD Metropolitan Commander, Andy Bawa.
“The aim of the walk is to keep all station commanders and divisional heads of the command fit for the Pacific Games,” said Waiyagure.
Waiyagure said the walk commenced last year and will continue until the Pacific Games. More officers are expected to join the walk.
The walk presents an opportunity for community policing, what with police visibility in the different communities the walks are conducted.
Port Moresby will be seeing more police presence in communities in the days leading up to the Games.
