A group of mothers from a remote area in Kairuku were handed K10,000 by their local MP Peter Isoaimo over the weekend through their commitment, dedication and self-resilience in a SME group they formed to sustain themselves.
Their courage and determination were finally met by the local MP who has given them the incentive to initiate various SME plans to improve their household units and the community.
The Bakoiudu SME Mother’s group consists of women from the inland Kuni Local Level Government constituent, who usually spend their time at road side informal markets along the Louis Mona Highway that connects into the hinterlands of Tapini in Goilala.
Their determination and resilience in forming their group was basically to source income through SME activities and sustain their livelihood in the remote setting they live in.
Community leader and the group’s spokesperson, Peter Olebe commended the women for their initiative to propel economic sustenance through their SME group.
” All you women have taken ownership in organizing yourselves. It was the right thing to do. You have not waited for free government handout.”
“Today is a milestone achieved, since you have organized yourselves, the government has come to your doorstep to help you.”
Kuni LLG President Ignatius Aida challenged the women folk to utilize the money for its intended purpose. He thanked the MP for supporting the group in his LLG and encouraged the women to use the money wisely, to grow their SME businesses and sustain their house holds
Isoaimo in his remarks commended the women for organizing themselves and taking part in SME activities.
He said the Kairuku District Development Authority under his leadership as Chairman has been continuously supporting SMEs, Women Groups and Cooperatives to ensure economic growth in the communities and the district.
