AUSTRALIA AWARDS ALUMNI DRIVING COMMUNITY SKILLS IN WNB

West New Britain is seeing the benefits of Australia Awards alumni giving back to their communities through practical skills training.

More than 50 alumni working across government, business, agriculture, education, health and community organisations have come together under the West New Britain Chapter of the Papua New Guinea Australia Alumni Association (PNGAAA).

Established in 2024 as the PNGAAA’s 13th provincial chapter, the group is already making an impact on the ground.

Through the PNGAAA Alumni Grant Scheme and supported by the PNG-Australia Partnership, the chapter delivered Project ME for a Bright Future – an initiative focused on personal development and financial literacy for alumni and local community members.

Chapter President Harold Rawei said the chapter provides a platform for alumni to share knowledge and contribute to local development.

“We want to use the knowledge, skills and networks within our alumni community to make a practical contribution to West New Britain,” Mr Rawei said.

“Through Project ME for a Bright Future, participants gained practical skills to support their personal and financial goals. The partnerships formed through the project will also help the chapter deliver further community initiatives.

“Through the PNG-Australia Partnership, Australia Awards alumni continue to build lasting links between Papua New Guinea and Australia, using their skills to advance education, health and economic opportunity across the country.
