The people of Mt Hagen in Western Highlands have their own stories to tell about soccer superstar David Beckham, on his recent visit into the province.
Locals openly expressed their joy at hosting the football great.
David Beckham’s recent visit to Mt Hagen, as United Nation’s Ambassador, caught locals by surprise.
The soccer star has had a place in the hearts of soccer fans or even the general public in Papua New Guinea.
Women of the Kagamuga Inter-denomination Mothers Association Incorporation, who work endlessly keeping the airport area clean, got to meet the soccer star.
Team leader, Julie James, actually shook hands with David and welcomed him. She said the soccer legend played with kids, ate with people and even mingled with them.
It was a privilege for Maria Pulavo meeting Beckham.
“David has a place in the hearts of soccer lovers,” she said.
Beckham’s visit was described as a true definition of humbleness of an ambassador.
