Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, has assured all landowners that any future payments will be made in the project area and not Port Moresby.
He said the government has realised that previous payments have handed up in the wrong hands, and that mistake will not be repeated.
He said many different factions are coming to the government claiming to be landowners and this has frustrated the government.
The Prime Minister said the government will ensure that every cheque is paid to genuine landowners, so that the owners will also realise that the government is serious about keeping their money safe.
However, the PM said there are numerous court proceedings preventing the process of landowner identification which is also frustrating.
O’Neill also mentioned that there are so many landowner companies requesting for Business Development Grants.
He said many of these are new companies, not the initial ones during the Kokopo agreement .
