Recent Rain Exposes Problems for Road Projects

The rains are a welcome sight for residents of Port Moresby, following months of dry weather.

However, the rains that came in the last two to three days have exposed problems along the newly constructed Baruni to LNG site road.

The EMTV News crew that visited the site saw minor landslips along the sides of the road, with the potential to cause bigger problems if the issues are not addressed quickly, or if the wet weather continues for a few more days.

This road portion is part of the Hanuabada-Gerehu-9 Mile Road project financed by the China EXIM Bank.

The employer is National Capital District Commission, the contractor is China Harbour Engineering Company and the engineer is Cardno.

The road project is along the four gateways to the National Capital District, and is part of a master plan to reduce the traffic congestion within the city, and to create new economic zones for the future development of the country’s capital city.
