Fiji has appointed a new commissioner to Papua New Guinea, after former commissioner, Romanu Tikotikoca, reportedly resigned from the position on February 28.
New commissioner, Esala Teleni, is the former ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, from 2010 till December 2014.
Before his post as ambassador to China, he was the commissioner of the Fiji Police Force.
After returning from the embassy of China, Teleni joined the Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) as a special advisor.
Teleni was farewelled at the secretariat in Suva on Monday, by staff of PIDF together with Amena Yauvoli, the interim Secretary-General.
In farewelling Teleni, Yauvoli said, “Ambassador Teleni’s contribution to the PIDF will not end as he leaves us, as he will now be our champion with the very important Melanesian Spearhead Group countries. We look forward to working closely with Ambassador Teleni in his new appointment.”
In recent months, the Fiji High Commission have had to contend with the issue of a missing Fijian girl in Papua New Guinea.
