Deputy Speaker: Anthem Apology Shallow

by Jack Lapauve Jr, EMTV – Port Moresby

Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Usino-Bundi MP, Anthon Yagama, described Makoda Productions reply to alterations of the National Anthem as unacceptable.

Mr Yagama said it’s an insult to Papua New Guinea’s.

In an interview with EM TV today, the Deputy Speaker says Makoda Productions should be held responsible for its actions. MP Yagama says any changes to the anthem will be through the floor of Parliament.

Yagama will bring the matter to the floor of parliament next week Tuesday when parliament resumes.

The Deputy Speaker called on Police Minister to make progress in investigating the matter to uphold the country’s sacred song and identity. He says this alteration by Makoda is a slap to the 7 plus million people of Papua New Guinea.

Meanwhile, NCD Governor Powes Parkop said the national anthem should not be changed at anytime. Governor Parkop said the mistake should not be done again.

Earlier this week Makoda Productions responded saying changes were done to embrace gender equality and time performance on stage during the opening of the South Pacific Games last week.
