Settlers Left Homeless, Homes Destroyed

People from Upper Fayantina atthe Gerehu Goroka Beock in Port Moresby are homeless aftertheir homes were destroyed by a backhoe under police watchful eyes.

 

It is alleged thatthe eviction exercise ofthese community is said to be illegal hasthe land title tothe land portion is still in court proceedings.

This portion of land is still under investigation and court proceedings afterthe developer Swanita Limited failed to pay an outstanding rent of K1.1 million.

 

Chairman ofthe Goroka Beock Andrew Anuma said documents fromthe Department ofLands and Physical Planning provers thatthe land title has not been approverd tothe developer, Swanita Limited.

 

Anuma alleges thatthere is evidence of land grab scheme happening insidethe city.

 

Meanwhile, Mr. Anuma has written tothe Minister forLands and Physical Planning Benny Allan; however,there is no reply as yet.

 

Attempts to contactthe secretary forLands were unsuccessful.
