Koloma New Head of National Statistical Office

Roko Koloma isthe new Acting Head ofthe National Statistics Office.

 

The announcement was made yesterday bythe National Planning Minister, Charles Abel in Port Moresby.

He replaces Joe Aka, whose appointment has been revoked recently.

 

Minister Abel when makingthe announcement said this isthe first step in restructuringthe National Statistics Office.

 

After making his congratulatory statementoMinister Abel directedthe new National Statistician to havethe long overdue 2011 Census be ready for the Novermber session.

“2011 Census remains incomplete and our government is deeply concerned. The population census isthe basis of all of our information on statistics, and as such Roko Kolomo as come in to take this challenge,” commented Abel.
 

His department has chipped in Five Million kina to speed upthe work to ensure thatthe census is ready.

 

The Minister identiflied two major areas that needed attention; Data on Consumer PriceIndex, andthe Raw Data National Accounts orthe Gross Domestic Product.

 

His ministry will focus on addressing problems associated in data collection and will work closely withthe NSO.

 

Mr. Koloma assured everyone thatthe 2011 census will be ready when parliament sits onthe 12th of next month.

“We’re working seven days a week so I’m confident that we will deliverthe results beforethe Novermber session,” said Kolomo.
 

Mr. Koloma is not new tothe business, having been inthe organisation for many years, he is positive thatthe Updating ofthe national accountoupdatingthe CPI calculation basis andthe delivery ofthe ongoing Electronic I-D program will all be achieved on time.
