Secretary for the Department of Implementation and Rural Development, Paul Sai’i, says funding is vital to monitor services improvement program funds.
He said while financial audits are presented in Port Moresby, it is equally important for his department to visit districts, to do performance audits on all projects.
Mr. Sai’i said this during the presentation of acquittals for the Kainantu LLG services improvement program funds.
The member for Kainantu, and Vice Minister for State Investments Johnson Tuke, and his 4 LLG representatives including the district administrator, presented the acquittals for the 2013 LLGSIP funds.
The member presented his acquittals for the district’s DSIP funds 2 weeks ago, and has received his first K2 million for this year’s DSIP funds.
Mr. Tuke urged the department of implementation and rural development, to pay regular visits to the provinces, to monitor how the PSIP, DSIP and LLGSIP funds are used.
Department Secretary, Paul Sai’I responded saying his department needs more funds to send officers out to the provinces.
But Mr. Sai’i says this will no longer be the situation because the department of planning announced recently, that more funding will be available, for monitoring purposes.
The department confirmed that it has collected 60 per cent acquittals from the 89 districts, and 20 per cent of more than 2 hundred LLGs.
Mr Sai’i also took the opportunity to urge all districts and LLGs, to submit their acquittals
