Teachers Resume Duties

It is one week, before the start of the 2014 academic year and teachers from both Government and Church – run schools resumed duties today.

Teachers from the Bavaroko Primary School in Port Moresby wasted no time and went ahead planning on how they will run the school, this academic year.

The year also records a milestone for the school because it is now elevated to level eight with two new teaching positions.

Bavaroko Primary is one of the oldest schools in NCD and was established in 1960. The school has over a thousand students and its motto is to promote excellent reading skills.

A very determined team of over thirty teachers joined other teachers nationwide and gathered at the school today to welcome the start of another school year.

Since its establishment, the school receives not much support from the government. Most of the classrooms are deteriorating fast and there is urgent need to build four more classrooms to accommodate the increase in students.

Amongst the things discussed, the teachers are aiming to give the school a face lift, extend its library, upgrade its toilet facilities and build two more classrooms for grades five and six.

The student population is expected to increase thanks to the Government’s Free Education Policy.
