POMIS Hosts Its United Nations Concert

The Port Moresby International School Oval was packed to capacity as their Year 12's hosted their annual prestigious United Nations Concert last night.

With this year’s theme being “When Worlds Collide”, the event saw dances from various cultures, not only from PNG but also foreign performances.

The UN concert showcased the diversity and the rich cultural heritage that Port Moresby International School enjoys.

The show kicked off with the Flag and Fashion Parade; that is both the international and local flags.

Following the Hebrew Dancers who were the opening act was the 51st crew; they performed a dance that incorporated moves from a Traditional Milne Bay Dance and Contemporary Hip-hop.

Local traditional acts included Hela Huli Dance, New Ireland Dance, Milne Bay Boys, The East Sepik Boys Dance and of course: the Bougainville dancers.

International performances included the Indian dance, the Mortlock Knife Dance, The Tango, The Cook Islands Tamure, The Tahitian Dance, The New Zealand Poi as well as the Haka.

Other items performed were Modern New Caledonian Dance, Singkil Phillipines Dance, Hebrew Dance, Chinese Dance, French, Tanzanian Dance and Nigerian Dance.

Among the acts, was an intriguing dance from the Philippines called The Maglalatik; a mock war dance that depicted a fight over coconut meat, a highly prized food. The men of the dance wear coconut shells as part of their costumes, and they slap them in rhythm with the music

The crowd was as amazing and as active as the field catered for over 3000 plus people. The entire oval was packed to capacity by both expatriates and locals.

The United Nations was a huge success with amazing fireworks by Lamana and the Finale closing another memorable show.
