As PNG marks the 46th National Book Week under the theme “Read A Book, Reset Your Future,” students at Badihagwa Technical Secondary School received 570 new books recently.
Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) and the Port Moresby Rotary Club handed over the books as part of the celebrations.
The donation was made possible through the annual Rotary grant by Former President Mr Robert Aisi. Mr Aisi purchased the books from BbP for three Motu Koita community schools: Badihagwa Technical Secondary School, Hagara Primary School, and the Vabukori Women’s Development Centre Early Learning Centre.
Of Motu Koita heritage, Mr Aisi said supporting local communities is personally meaningful. Speaking to Grade 8 and 11 students, he encouraged them to build a love for reading. “Read as much as you can. Books give you knowledge, and knowledge gives you opportunities,” he said.
Badihagwa Deputy Principal Mrs Julie Vele thanked Mr Aisi, Hon. Boge and BbP, and urged students to use the books to improve their reading.
Representing BbP, PR and Marketing Team Lead Mary Sawa thanked the Rotary Club for its continued support.
She also challenged students to make reading a habit before year end.
Mrs Sawa said the Rotary Club also made its annual K20,000 donation to BbP to help provide library books to schools across PNG.
