A lack of government funding and support has disrupted the construction of a road that will benefit hundreds in Nipa–Kutubu district, in the Southern Highlands province.
K6 million of funding was announced more than a year ago and initial work began, however due to a shortfall in funding work has halted.
The contract was awarded to a local contractor, however it claims that only part of that K6 million was actually released.
The community is calling on the government to assist by providing additional funding so work can be completed.
Jim Angar, a local within the community, wants this important development to be completed so the people can enjoy the benefits.
“We were overjoyed when this project was announced but an incomplete project sitting like this is not pleasing. We are calling for government to hear us and come to our help,” said Angar.
Nipa-Kutubu district has invested millions over the last three years on road infrastructure, building new roads and upgrading existing ones.
It plans to continue with this important development this year.
