PNG Clothing And Fabric Factory

The last day of the women’s forum saw panel discussions take place that looked at female entrepreneurship, and amongst the panelists was Kathleen Johnson who shared her news of setting up a clothing and fabric factory.

The factory will be located at Konedobu Park at Lealea, on the outskirts of Port Moresby, and is still in the planning stages.

She plans to employ domestic tailors who have years of experience, and train them to adjust to the factory setting.

The factory will produce linen table clothes and clothing such as meri blouses that most of the female tailors are used to making.

Gertrude Andria, who is the President of a vocational training centre which teaches women basic sewing skills in Jiwaka, says that it’s time PNG women start clothing Papua New Guineans.

Not only on a small scale, but a large scale. She also said that we should be receiving the best and not relying on second hand clothing.

Johnson says that even though it is in the early stages she hopes that the factory is a success and they will be able to provide clothing at an affordable price.
