BARRAS BEGIN STRONG CAMPAIGN  

The Papua New Guinea Barramundis have started their international preparations in style, delivering two impressive victories in warm-up matches held in Brisbane over the weekend.

In their first match on Friday, September 26, PNG edged out a determined Queensland XI in a thrilling contest, winning by just two runs. After posting 156 for 8, thanks to key contributions from Hila Vara (31) and skipper Assad Vala (25), PNG’s bowlers held their nerve in the final over. Alei Nao’s crucial wicket sealed the win, with Queensland XI finishing on 154 for 5.

On Sunday, September 28, PNG followed up with a dominant 7-wicket victory over Queensland PC XI. Their disciplined bowling attack, led by Kabua Morea (3 for 26) and Damien Ravu (2 for 8), restricted the hosts to 111 for 9. The Barramundis chased down the target in just 11.5 overs, powered by Boio Ray (23), Assad Vala (23), and Gaudi Toka (20).

These back-to-back victories underline PNG’s growing confidence and depth, setting a positive tone ahead of their upcoming Oman Tour next month.
