Cricket Papua New Guinea high-performance at Amini Park have received a major boost to their physical preparation and fitness with the donation of gym equipment worth K30,000.
Cricket Papua New Guinea received the timely donation from the Carbine Club of Papua New Guinea to support the development of its national teams.
Cricket PNG Strength and Conditioning Coach for the national men’s and women’s teams, Anthea Murray, said the teams had been using the new equipment for two months, allowing them to maximise their training sessions.
“For our gym, we started using the new equipment two months ago for both the national men’s and women’s teams and the junior men’s and women’s teams. It has provided an opportunity for them to continue maximising their training sessions,” Murray said.
She explained that the equipment allows her to develop tailored training programs to meet the specific needs of individual players.
“I am able to create a program where I can put out a range of exercises that help meet the specific demands and individual needs of each athlete, as well as providing overall strength for the whole team,” she said.
Murray also highlighted that the new gym had made fitness training more accessible and convenient for the players.
“It has made it a lot easier. We used to use the high-performance gym at the Taurama Aquatic Centre, as they had a wide range of equipment. But now that the Carbine Club has really helped us with the new equipment, we are able to access it within our own venue,” she said.
She added that the gym was exclusively for national team players, while domestic teams would need to access other fitness facilities.
“For our gym, it is exclusive to the national teams, so our domestic teams would have to source a gym outside. But if you do make the team, then you have access to our high-performance gym,” Murray said.
