BSP SUPPORTS GUM PRIMARY WITH CLASSROOM, DESKS AND WATER TANK

BSP Financial Group Limited has officially handed over a new double classroom, 80 desks and a 5,000-litre water tank to Gum Primary School in Madang Province.

The school received the assistance under the bank’s 50for50 GivimBek Initiative.

The project was identified and nominated by BSP staff in Madang Province. For Project Lead Bernadette Massen, Gum Primary School and its surrounding community have been home for the past six years.

Originally from Morobe Province, Massen has been with BSP Madang for more than 10 years. She first learned of the need for a new classroom through a fundraising drive organised by the school’s head teacher, which prompted her to apply for support through the 50for50 GivimBek Initiative.

“What started as a fundraising drive by the parents and teachers of Gum Primary School to complete a partially built classroom has become a BSP 50for50 GivimBek Project,” Massen said.

“Championing the initiative alongside my colleagues and with the support of branch management, the project is a combined community effort under Madang Branch and the BSP 50for50 GivimBek Initiative.”

She said the new facilities would support teachers, improve learning outcomes and help students achieve better results while easing the financial burden on parents and the wider community.

BSP Group General Manager Retail Bank, Ronesh Dayal, said giving back to the community was most successful when everyone shared the same vision.

“At BSP, we believe that when we prosper, our communities should prosper too,” Dayal said.

He said the new double classroom and 80 desks reflected commitment, trust and strong partnerships between BSP, the school, the community and local business partners.

Dayal also acknowledged the school board and management, parents who volunteered their time during construction, and local businessmen Steven Segifok and Jeffrey Turirik for their generous personal contributions to the project.
