The Australian Government has increased its aid funding to PNG with an increase of around K85 million.
Around K1.4 billion will go towards the Australian Governments initiatives, the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby says it will directly benefit the lives of Papua New Guineans.
The High Commission in a media release stating the initiatives include supporting the government of Papua New Guinea in infrastructure, electrification partnership, secondary schooling programs, and health services.
Funding will go towards initiatives that will directly benefit the lives of Papua New Guineans and support the Government of Papua New Guinea’s priorities through the Papua New Guinea-Australia Partnership.
These include supporting the Government of Papua New Guinea’s priority on infrastructure development, the Electrification Partnership and the goal to connect 70 percent of the population to reliable electricity by 2030, secondary schooling programs, increased opportunities for skilled workers, and expanded support for sub-national health services.
The increase comes as Australia tries to maintain a stronghold not only in PNG but the Pacific, with other Pacific Islands also receiving increases in aid funding.
