“There is still a shortage of teachers in Papua New Guinea,” National Education Minister, Nick Kuman said.
And they need 70, 000 more teachers to bridge the gaps and reflect the ratio of a teacher to a student as outlined in the National Education plan.
Teacher training, Minister Kuman said this was part of the building capacity reform of the Education Department.
Building capacity is a key function of the National Education Department.
Their partnership with the European Union in training 860 teachers is a component of the Education reform.
“Teacher shortage in the country can be blamed for less number of students graduating in secondary schools,” Minister Kuman said.
The National Education Secretary said capacity is needed during this reform period.
