A total of K900,000 has been approved by the Huon Gulf District Development Authority in Morobe to construct 18 resource centers across the district.
This was announced by MP and Minister for Community Development, Youth, and Religion, Jason Peter, during the opening of a community resource center for Wamasu Ward 14 in Salamaua LLG last Friday.
Minister Peter said that following completion of the initial centers, additional funding will be allocated to expand the program to all 65 wards in Huon Gulf District. He added that the Wamasu Community Resource Center (Community Hall) was valued at K50,000.
According to Minister Peter, the project was funded through the Huon Gulf District Development Authority (HGD-DDA) under the Bottom-Up Planning initiative. The facility will serve as a central venue for community meetings, youth programs, training activities, and social development initiatives for Wamasu and surrounding communities.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, two additional community development projects were launched: a cocoa nursery under the District Division of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL) program to support local farmers, and a water tank project to improve access to safe and reliable water for households.
Minister Peter also thanked community leaders, ward representatives, and residents for their cooperation and support in making these projects a reality.
