Human Trafficking Exists in PNG

Authorities say Human Trafficking is virtually an unknown crime in Papua New Guinea but it exists.

A Public Awareness Campaign on this is being organized at the University of Papua New Guinea on Monday.

Labeled “1 day against Human Trafficking”, the Department of Justice, Attorney General and Migration want the public to be aware of the existence of Human Trafficking.

About one million people fall victim each year. They are made to cross borders to become cheap labour, forced into prostitution, domestic slavery, among others.

ย 

In Papua New Guinea, people are either forced into the country or taken from rural areas to towns and cities as slaves.
