30+ Players Selected for Team Kumul Trial Match

More than 30 players have been selected to play inthe trial match beforethe Prime Minister’s XIII match at Kalaond oval in Kokopo atthe end of this month.

Most players were selected fromthe semiprofessional Digicel cup competition, and include some international NRL players.

 

Team Kumul is continuing its mission to scout a final squad in preparation for theWorld Cup.

 

The preparations begin with a trial matches Red vs. Gold andthe Prime Minister’s XIII to gauge an elite squad for the forthcoming prestigious event.     

 

PNG Rugby Football League Chairman Don Fox announced Team Kumul Red and Gold teams who will be vying to earn a spot intothe Prime Minister’s XIII match before a final squad is selected.

 

 A total of 34 local and international-based players will have to impressthe national Selection team of Arnold Krewanty, Samson Clayton Well and Steve Malum, who were out attending matches aroundthe country and looking atthe progress ofthe players and reporting back tothe coaching staff.

 

Red team includes recent Digicel Cup reigning champions skipper Larsen Marabe, Sebastian Pandia, Garry Lo, and Elijah Riyong, just to name a few. Paul Aiton is also included.

 

Team Kumul Gold will be inthe likes of Josiah Abavu, Thompson Tete, Charlie Wabo, Gonezela Urakusie, Richard Kambo, Israel Eliab and NRL Penrith Pather’s hooker James Segeyaro.   

 

PNGRFL chairman Don Fox said in a statementoplayers who are recovering from injuries or still taking part in finals and absent for this match will also be considered for selection for Prime Minister’s XIII match andthe final squad for theWorld Cup.

 

According to Fox, this match will provide an opportunity to Coaching Staff to seethe players in action against each ther to determine a spot inthe Prime Minister’s XIII match.
