Regional Awareness on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Integrating into PNG Government’s Responsible Sustainable Development STaRS policy Management had commenced this month.
The University of Papua New Guinea, through its Sustainable Development Degree Programme and centre for Climate Change and Sustainable Development has kicked started the series of awareness.
UPNG’s Executive Dean of School of Natural & Physical Sciences, Professor Chalapan Kaluwin, is leading a team of academics from the discipline of Environmental Sciences & Geography on a three-month exercise programme to Milne Bay, NCD, Eastern Highlands and Madang Province.
The regional workshop will comprise of mostly provincial officers, representatives from identified faith based organisations, Universities, civil society groups and the NGOs.
Workshop sponsors, UNDP and the Department of National Planning & Monitoring is hoping that UPNG as a responsible institution will create robust engagement of all civil communities through this awareness program.
New Guinea Islands had completed its awareness program in East New Britain and the team will be moving down to Alotau next month for the Southern Region.
Highlands Region will be covered in Eastern Highlands at the Bird of Paradise Hotel from 4th of April to 6th of April.
Momase region will be hosted at the Madang Resort from the 11th of April to the 13th of April.
While, NCD will be covered at Lamana Hotel from the 18th of April to the 20th.
