After losing the Maprik Open seat contest, the people of Maprik are being misled by Vincent Yangwari described by new Maprik MP John Simon as “a young man who lives in Moresby”.
Yangwari had joined ousted MP William Kapris in saying to the public and media that the new MP was not supposed to exercise his powers as yet to stop public assets and district accounts until all formalities were done following the return of writs to the Governor General.
Newly elected member for Maprik Open said Mr Yangwari has come up with excuses and accusations against him to mislead the people.
He said a health centre built from Warapu was from contributions by all the people of Yamil Temawi including his people. They contributed K20-25 each towards the construction of the health centre. An ambulance was later contributed by the district administration.
However, after Simon’s declaration, his people were prevented from accessing the health services from this health because the people there said it belongs to Vincent Yangwari.
Mr Simon said “this health centre neither belongs to nor was it been built by Vincent.” He then instructed the district health advisor to investigate because it is not a private health centre.
He said in regards to Vincent’s accusations on breaching parliamentary procedures is not right. He stressed that he is the duly elected Member for Maprik and as such have a duty to protect the assets of the district which are State assets.
Meanwhile, Mr Simon is waiting his swearing in on Fridy, August 3rd, and will return to the district to exercise his duties with full powers.
He said Vincent Yangwari and Gabriel Kapris must accept defeat and swallow their pride because failing that would only result in destruction of their own moral good and self.
