Election petitioner Peter Yama saysthPNG Electoral Commission has failed to conduct fair and free elections.
Mr Yama has pressed irregularities inthe final recount of ballot papers for the Usino Bandi electorate seatoclaiming figures of recount 37 didn’trsquo;t reflect well.
He said this shows lack of independentoneutrality and transparency bythe commission’s counting officials.
Recount for ballot papers for Usino-Bandi electorate seat ended last weekend with sitting MP Anton Yagama finishing inthe first place.
Mr Yama saidthe sudden increase and decrease of votes has raised many concerns ofthe extra ballot papers.
“We are investigating into where those ballot papers have been taken out…and I have some link,” said Yama.
Mr Yama said while his team was conducting investigation this week, an envelope containing batches of ballot papers with serial numbers for Usino-Bandi was found nearthe Madang electoral office.
Lawyer representing Yama explained recount was to only rectify or check and balancethe figures.
