The Oro Province Labor Department has been challenged to do more awareness on workers’ rights inthe workforce.
This was fromthe Minister for Labor andIndustrial Relations Mark Maipakai who visitedthe province last Friday.
The Department of Labor andIndustrial Relations in its bid to meetthe changing demands ofthe workforce is empowering its provincial labor offices under its capacity building program.
Under this program provincial labor offices will be adequately resourced to carry outtheir duties.
The Oro Provincial Labor Office last Friday was presentedthe keys totheir new vehicle under this initiative. Mr. Maipakai toldthe provincial labor officer Copeland Gewa to utilizethe vehicle well.
He saidthere are workers inthe urban and rural areas that still do not knowtheir rights and challenged labor officers inthe province to do more awareness.
Deputy Secretary for Labor andIndustrial Relations Mary Morala told labor officer to work in partnership to implement specific labor laws.
Business Houses inthe province were also told to respectthe rights of workers and to operate withinthe labor laws ofthe country.
Recentlythere have been complaints of non-compliance of labor laws and abuse of workers’ rights in workplaces.
Provincial Labor Officer Copeland Gewa called for an attitude change from his staff and to diligently performtheir duties.
