Two female passengers caught trafficking 97 kilograms of marijuana on-board a commercial flight from Lae’s Nadzab airport, to Kimbe’s Hoskins airport, late yesterday afternoon, have been charged for being in possession of dangerous drugs.
The women were caught by the flight attendant with the drugs strapped onto their bodies, after they found it difficult to buckle up before take-off.
Lae Police went to the Nadzab airport and transported the two women to the Lae Central Police station after they were caught with the drug.
The two mothers came from Goroka and boarded a flight to Kimbe’s Hoskins airport.
The drugs were strapped on their body, placed into ladies leggings they were wearing and concealed inside the meri-blouse they wore.
Lae Police estimate that the drugs street value could have been more than ten thousand kina, during questioning at the Lae Police station, the two women told police that a man sent them as drug mules.
The two women’say they have children attending school, one of them was a widow with four children.
They told Lae Police that a Goroka man, known to Police, has been using women on many occasions to transport his drugs into the New Guinea Islands.
One of the woman said when they refused to come the man told them they won’t die, a lot of woman have done it and got home safely.
