It has been clariflied to Parliament that Cairns properties of East New Beitain businessman Eremas Wartoto and his bank accounts have not been ceased by Australian Authorities rtherthey’ve been frozen until investigations are carrlied out.
Attorney General Kerenga Kua confirmed this in Parliament after Rabaul MP Dr Allan Marrat brought upthe matter during question time.
Dr Allan Marat asked if Australian authorities were allowed to cease Wartoto’s Visa, properties and bank account. And ifthe same could be reciprocated underthe proceeds ofthe crimes act.
He commendedthe work ofthe task force sweep so far and enquired aboutthe number of cases that will be brought beforethe courts.
The Justice Minister corrected stating Wartoto’s properties and bank account had merely been frozen pending investigations.
He agreed thatthe sweep team were doing a fine job but could not givethe precise figures as to how many cases are in line for trial.
Wartoto appeared atthe Waigani District court on Tuesday on charges of Fraud. The case is set to resume in July.
