A memorandum of understanding was signed between Vanimo Green District and Digicel PNG for the construction of communication towers.
A total of 2 point 5 million kina has been made available through the District Services Improvement Program funds.
Five tower locations have already been identified
Present for the signing yesterday were Vanimo Green MP and Opposition Leader, Belden Namah, members of the Joint District Planning and Budget Priorities Committee, the acting Governor for Sandaun Province, and representatives from the mobile network communications provider.
The agreement marked the beginning of the roll-out which will cover all of Vanimo Green electorate.
Sandaun’s acting governor expressed his appreciation for the venture, which is expected to generate development through better communication system.
It will take approximately three moths for the service provider to fully erect the communication towers.
This project is a 50-50 funding arrangement where the district covers half of the coast. These towers will provide 3G network that will provide internet access as well as mobile service.
The towers will be put up at Bewani, Immonda, Green River and the East Coast.
