Airline Company, Travel Air has extended its services to Popondetta, Northern Province, with its inaugural flight yesterday.
The Port Moresby to Popondetta route is the shortest route in Papua New Guinea. It takes approximately 15 minutes.
Despite this, there are limited daily flights to the province from airline operators.
This setback has affected the traveling public and economic activities on the ground.
The provincial administration seeing this has opened doors for competition to allow for more airlines to operate in the province.
Travel Air became the latest airline to touch down in the province.
Passengers onboard the inaugural flight to Popondetta said it was long overdue and hoped for improved services in the future.
Chairman of Travel Air, Eremas Wartoto, is confident of delivering to the people of Northern Province.
He announced Travel Airs’ plans of having a standard ticketing fare of K350 for all centres and the introduction of new 737 aircrafts.
