By Eric Haurupma EM TV, Port Moresby

As much as possible we’ve tried to bring you independence celebrations from all over the country this week.

On Independence Day three days ago, EM TV Cameraman Paul Naime, travelled to the remote Telefomin District in West Sepik Province and brought back pictures of the celebrations.

Participants from the four Local Level Government areas including Yapsie, Nameiah and Oksapmin joined the rest of the country to celebrate at the district headquarters.

It was an event that showed true nationalism in the remote district miles away from the Flag Raising Ceremony attended by dignitaries in Port Moresby.

While acknowledging forefathers of this country, Telefomin MP, Solan Mirisim said PNG has come a long way over the last 40 years, overcoming many challenges to be today.

Mirisim said in order to see transition and change in Telefomin, it must unite all its Local Level Governments as one with the country, aligned by the country’s development goals.

The event signified the people’s celebration of the transformation in the fore of self-government rule since independence.

The event also saw medallions being awarded to distinguished people for their outstanding contribution and support in bringing tangible services into the district.
