With only hours to go until it officially begins, the world is waiting anxiously for the opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
The world’s best athletes will take centre stage at the opening ceremony at the Maracana Stadium in Rio De Janeiro Saturday morning, PNG time.
Papua New Guinea’s super fish Ryan Pini will lead the Team PNG contingent at the opening ceremony.
Among other athletes representing PNG at the Rio Olympics are Samantha and Max Kassman in taekwondo, Raymond Ovinou in judo, Morea Baru in weightlifting, Thadius Katua in boxing, and Toea Wisil and Theo Piniau in athletics.
The opening ceremony is directed by the acclaimed Fernando Meirelles, who is working alongside Andrucha Waddington and Daniela Thomas, who coordinated Rio’s handover element at the 2012 closing ceremony.
The opening ceremony will be live and free on EMTV, tomorrow morning at 9am.
