Rufer Appointed as PNG National Coach and Mentor

The PNG Football Association has appointed Wynton Rufer as the new PNG National Coach and Mentor.

Rufer’s wider football expertise will be needed to prepare the Under 19 Men’s Team for the OFC Under 19 Championship in May.

The PNG Football Association is casting the net wide in the build-up to the OFC U-19 Championship in May, calling together a training squad of 25 young players.

Rufer, once named ‘player of the century’ currently works with the OFC as a football ambassador, helping them with development programs around the Pacific Region.

Rufer has been working with the boys on their skill levels and game planning, doing two sessions a day at the PNGFA Academy in Lae.

Rufer said PNG has talented players, and the key now, is for him to mold the players into a winning team.

He was in the country as the PNG National Coach, mentoring the players and preparing them for the future and more, the coming U-19 OFC championship.

The training squad is made of players who took part in the OFC U-17 Championships in Vanuatu last year, with a few from PNGFA’s Development Programs.

The U19 OFC Tournament is the Qualifier for the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
