Road Accident at Erima

A road accident occurred at the Erima Freeway in Port Moresby on Saturday morning.

It was alleged that the vehicle owner driving the Honda CRV was under the influence of alcohol. The vehicle hit a power pole and was turned upside down, but there were no serious injuries.

The incident caused such a commotion as the public and especially traffic, came to a standstill. Curious bystanders also flocked the site to see for themselves the aftermath of the road accident.

An eye – witness, Peter Paia, said that while he was sitting at Erima Park, he noticed the driver of the vehicle driving at full speed along the Freeway. That was only minutes before he crashed straight into the Power Pole. Other eye – witnesses also reported seeing empty beer bottles in the vehicle, and alleged that the driver was drinking and driving.

Since the vehicle hit the power pole, PNG Power Linesmen and Technicians arrived at the scene to deactivate the live wires. Police also arrived at the scene to get full details and ensure public order.
