This episode features one of the country’s gold producing province of New Ireland, where Lihir Gold Mine is being operated by the Newcrest Mining Limited.
Like any other resource area in PNG, the small island has its own challenges; landowner issues over mining benefits, the transition in the way of life for the people and the struggle for Lihirian people to be self-reliant after mining ends on the island.
