Research remains one of the fundamentals of achieving significant developments in third world countries, like Papua New Guinea.
Over the years, large amounts of money has been pumped into scientific research, the output not always benefiting Papua New Guineans in a significant way.
The University of Technology is continuing to support the area of research and development in the country.
Dr. Lydia Rubiang Yalambing, is a contributor to scientific research in the country.
She has a doctorate in applied sciences and is a researcher at the University of Technology in Lae.
She is one of many Papua New Guinean researchers who have seen the importance of research work.
The concern here is coming from at least one academic, on a personal note; Dr. Yalambing wants more research to be done.
Her concern is that there has to be more scientific research done to pave way for development, specifically in the area of agriculture and other areas that have lacked service delivery.
But more research means, more financial support.
“Our nation is young. We need to do research to know more about things”, Dr. Yalambing said.
Over the years, while the government and institutions have invested a lot of effort into research, many of the recommendations have not been implemented.
