The PNG’s Under 20 women’s national football team today departed for a three week tour of the United States.
Head coach Lisa Cole is using the tour to further gauge the strengths and weaknesses of a side that has had only four competitive matches ahead of November’s World Cup.
The squad arrived in Port Moresby on Wednesday, spending only a night in the nation’s capital to regroup.
Assistant Coach Rachel Wadunah said the team was anxious about the travel but hopeful of putting in good performances whilst on tour.
Earlier in the year, Cole was adamant that the side’s improvement lay on how much experience could be gained in the short period of time prior to the FIFA World Cup in November.
Cole will use the trip to finalise her team for the event. Currently there is a crop of 25, each one of whom are hopeful to make the cut.
The team departed this morning via the Philippines, reaching the United States in two days, where they have seven scheduled matches.
