The National Boxing Championships are set to begin on Thursday this week in Kavieng, New Ireland Province.
Boxers from around the country are expected to arrive tomorrow for the four-day tournament, which will feature some of the biggest draw cards in the country.
Tournament Director, Dick Larry, is looking forward to the tournament and is confident all the hard work put in, in terms of organisation, will pay off.
The championships will see the likes of Pacific Games men’s and women’s gold medalists, as well as several newcomers in which Larry looks forward to discovering new talent.
The event will be used as a selection criteria for the upcoming Melanesian Cup which will be held in Fiji, in March next year.
Minister for Sport, Justin Tkatchenko, and Kavieng MP, Ben Micah, who serves as major sponsor, will witness the opening of the event.
The tournament begins on Thursday morning with the women’s 51kg division.
