Madang town is expecting a large contingent of tourists who will be arriving on board the P&O cruise ship, Pacific Dawn, on Thursday 19 February, this month.
Madang Visitors Bureau Chairman, Sir Peter Barter, says preparations are underway and they are looking forward to host over 2000 tourists on that day.
Sir Peter Barter says over 2000 tourists, mainly Australians, will arrive on board the cruise ship, Pacific Dawn.
According to the vessel’s official website, the ship will arrive in Madang on Thursday 19th of February at 6am.
This will be the biggest contingent of tourists arriving in Madang this year.
Sir Peter Barter says tours, harbour cruises and traditional arts and singsings, have been organised by the Melanesian Tourist Services.
Of the 2000 passengers on board the cruise ship, about 50 are ex-residents of Madang.
Whilst the tourism industry in the province has slowly gain recognition from the provincial government, NGO’s and business houses, and sports are also becoming an attraction for tourists to Madang.
The code of Soccer is becoming a favourite, and recognised leaders in the province say it can be an attraction for visitors to Madang.
Meanwhile, Madang residents are advised to make the town welcoming for the visitors.
