Lae City Dwellers Thrash Oro FC

By Sylvester Gawi – EM TV Sport, Lae

Lae City Dwellers still maintains top form in the Telikom National Soccer League with a 6-nil victory over Oro FC in Lae, yesterday afternoon.

The Oro boys were on a mission to return their 4-nil loss to Lae from round 1, however Lae caused them more upset with the 6-nil win.

Lae’s goalkeeper, Ronald Warisan scored the final goal, setting a National record for a semi professional competition in Papua New Guinea.

Dwellers who dominated in the second half of the game, showed no mercy for the visitors putting on an impressive performance in front of the home crowd.

The Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium was packed with a vocal crowd as Dwellers goalkeeper Ronald Warisan runs from his own goalmouth to his opponent’s.

What that was going to unfold was history in the making for a young goalkeeper in the semi professional competition.

And yes, Warisan scored the final goal for the dwellers to win 6-goals to nil.

“It’s a great achievement and feeling for me and my family in Lae and Wewak,” says Warisan after the game.

The Lae city dwellers showed much concentration in the game, disallowing Oro’s frontline from getting past their backline, and even scoring a goal.

Oro on the other hand were faced with a major ball-handling problem. Their finishing touches were also poor and were placed under pressure by the dwellers.

“Today’s (Saturday) game was very disappointed. The boys’ performance was very lacking in support plays, says Oro FC’s Assistant Team Manager, Robert Sabadi.

Raymond Gunemba opened the scoreboard in the first half, and then scored another two in the second half, with Nigel Dabinyaba also scoring double.

“We had a lot of advice from the coach during half-time, and so that boosted our second half performance with a good result,’’ says Dwellers captain Raymond Gunemba.

In other NSL results, at Laiwaden oval in Madang, Besta FC went down to Madang FC 3-2, while Admiralty FC defeated Port Moresby FC 3-nil in the nation’s capital.
