Amelia Kuk has been named in the PNG Orchids 24-member squad after missing out on selection into the Australian Jillaroos side.
This was officially announced by PNGRFL Chairman Sandis Tsaka when naming the Oil Search PNG Orchids 24-member squad for the World Cup.
The inclusion of Amelia Kuk in the Oil Search PNG Orchids side comes as a bonus to the Women’s National team.
Orchids Coach Dennis Miall said Kuk will not be a new face in the camp, having played for the Australian Jillaroos PM’s 13 side against the Orchids last month.
The 24-year-old will bring experience and versatility to the side.
Kuk will join fellow Queenslander Jazmyn Taumafai as the two overseas-based players amongst a host of local talent in the PNG side.
According to coach Miall, Taumafai cemented her sport with an impressive performance in last Friday’s 30-6 win over Far North Queensland All Stars in Innisfail, Australia.
The squad however, is dominated by players from the Southern and Highlands region, with a handful from the Northern part of the country.
The team is captained by Cathy Neap. The squad is expected to assemble in Port Moresby next week to prepare for the Women’s Rugby League World Cup, which kicks off in Sydney on November 16, 2017.
