Koitaki Road To Be Upgraded

By Stanley Ove Jr – EM TV News Port Moresby

The Koitaki Highway in the Koiari LLG of Kairuku-Hiri will see an upgrade that will connect thousands living along the Sogeri and Koiari ranges, to Port Moresby.

Funds of over K200,000 were presented by local MP, Peter Isoaimo, yesterday in Koitaki.

The funds were given to a local contractor to re-gravel the highway, meaning the highway will not be permanently sealed but simply upgraded to make travelling easier and safer.

The upgrade of the road will also improve delivery of services such as health.

The Koitaki area also sits on one of the country’s most fertile pieces of land, with many subsistence farmers growing fresh garden produce for markets in Port Moresby.

With the highway to be upgraded, it will again boost the local economy of Koitaki.

“Koitaki is the food bowl of Port Moresby. Once we have the road properly fixed, it will help our community to sustain themselves and help with our people who are traveling to Port Moresby to get services every day,” Isoaimo said.
