Air Niugini Kieta, has set a new benchmark as the recipient of the ‘On Time Performance’ first quarter award.
The Kieta sector was reopened in December 2014, after 25 years of closure due to the Bougainville Civil War, and has maintained its performance since resuming flight operations.
Kieta, ranked as PORT D, maintained 100 percent in the first quarter On Time Performance – January, February and March.
Recently, weekly flights into Kieta were increased from three to six, due to high demand.
Kieta Airport Manager, Jason Takopo, speaking to EMTV at the presentation in Port Moresby on Friday May 22, thanked the Air Niugini management and airline stakeholders, for their support.
He said that Kieta airport is manned by only two staff, who have to make sure that work is carried out and that the aircraft leaves on time.
Kieta scooped the award with Daru and Mendi.
Newly appointed Buka-Kieta Port Manager, Hane Garo, has plans to transform these two ports, taking into consideration, Bougainville’s quest for full autonomy.
She said that services must be of high standard.
Chief Executive Officer, Simon Foo, while relaying his congratulatory message for their achievement, also thanked ground operations and security aviation staff for maintaining consistency and achieving results.
In the other categories, recently upgraded Port B, Hoskins, received the Category A award, Madang’s title since the On Time Performance inception in 2014.
The race is still on and General Manager – Ground Operations and Aviation Security, Marco McConnell, thanked airport and port managers for their improvement.
