Members of the Advisory Board of the PNG Immigration and Citizenship Service Authority (PNGICSA) toured the Regional Processing Centre on Manus this week.
They were on Manus for the PNGICSA’s Advisory Board’s third board meeting.
Chairman of the PNGICSA Advisory Board and Acting Secretary for Department of Foreign Affairs, William Dihm, said the visit was an opportunity for the board members to observe ICSA’s operations in the country.
During the visit, PNG Immigration officials briefed board members on their roles and responsibilities at the refugee transit centre.
The board members included Ambassador Maiu Raka-Nou, Dr Lawrence Kalinoe, Secretary for Department of Justice and Attorney General, Rev. Mwaosa Tutmtula, Member of the PNG Council of Churches, Arai Pula, and Deputy Secretary Department of Prime Minister and NEC, Ron Seddon.
They were taken on a tour of the East Lorengau site and the Regional Processing Centre on Lombrum Naval Base.
Dihm acknowledged Chief Migration Officer, Mataio Rabura, for the opportunity to have a better insight into what the facilities are about and how hard the Immigration staff has worked together with the Australian officials to manage these complex and expensive facilities.
The advisory board members met with the Manus Provincial Administrator, Andrew Posong, as well as with the Australian service providers in the health and security sectors, who briefed the board members on their responsibilities and as well as the challenges faced.
