Hela Governor Set Trial Began Today

The trial on the tussle for the Acting Governor’s seat of Hela province began today at the Waigani National Court.

Koroba-Lake Kopiago MP, Philip Undialu, and Komo-Margarima MP, Francis Potape, are in dispute over the seat, following the death of the late Governor, Anderson Agiru.

Two weeks ago, Potape filed an interim injunction challenging Undialu’s appointment, but Justice Colin Makail refused to deal with it.

Today at the trial, Potape argued that procedures were not followed and Undialu was voted in by the Provincial Assembly as Acting Governor.

When the trial is completed, the court will determine who will be the Acting Governor of Hela province.
