Governors Easter Boxing Tournament

Team NCD walked away with over K15 thousand in cash prizes, 6 gold medals, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals from the Governor’s Boxing Tournament in Port Moresby.

Team NCD 1 topped the ladder followed by the boys from the Kairuku Boxing Association at second placing, and NCD 2 in third place.

 

It was a heart pumping clash over the long Easter weekend at the Ben Moide Club at Murray Barracks. Here are the highlights.

 

It was a nerve-wracking moment for both the boxers and the general public who came in numbers to cheer on their teams at the Ben Moide Club at Murray Barracks, over the long Easter break.

 

Yesterday, a total of 20 finalists entertained the crowd and officials.

The fight between Peter Michael from KABA and Charlie Kavo from team NCD 1 in the 75kg division, was a thriller. These two are PNG representatives.

Michael championed this fight.

 

 

The boys from AROB also gave the home team a good challenge. NCD 1 topped the ladder with 5 Gold and 2 Silver. They went home with K7, 000 prize money.

 

The boys from Kairuku, KABA followed with 2 Gold, 2 Silver, 3 Bronze and took home K10, 000.

 

And team NCD 2 in third place with 1 Gold, 3 Silver, 3 Bronze and prize money of K15, 000.

 

Charlie Keama from team NCD 1, defeated Maxie Magea from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville or AROB, to claim the 49kg Division; Jonathan Lawas (AROB) grabbed the title for the 52kg division; Henry Umings (NCD 1) 56kg division; Tom Boga (NCD 1) 60kg division; Chicko Emmanuel (NCD 1) 64kg division; Joe Magaiva (KABA) 69kg division; Peter Michael – (KABA) 75kg division; Lucas Wakore (NCD 1) 81kg division; Ruddy Suchnett (NCD 1) 91kg division and Manu Mai (HELA) 91+ kg division.

 

Jonathon Lawas was the Boxer of the Tournament, Charlie Keama the Most Scientific Boxer, Maxie Magea the Most Improved Boxer, and Mack Hiari, Best Performer.
